A morning or afternoon boat ride on The Ganges River in Varanasi is a spectacular way to take in the rituals this city is so famous for.
Morning and afternoon sees many Hindu pilgrims taking their bath here along the many ghats or steps. You’ll also see cremations taking place at the burning ghats. It’s a 24 hour a day operation here. There have been lots of reports of human remains floating in the river but fortunately on my three rides on this trip I did not spot anything.
Varanasi is one of the oldest living cities in the world. Even with all of the modern machines and activities present you really do get a sense, because of these ancient rituals, that life has been carrying on the same way here for a very long time.
A boat ride is also a great way to get away from the crazy frenzy of this city. Trust me, this will help pace out your stay here.
