Tokyo is the convenience capital of the world. It’s so easy to get something to eat, shop for exactly what you need and travel on one of the most efficient train systems and subways in the world. Hell there’s even easy access to The Imperial Palace and it’s surrounding gardens and grounds.
If you’re time is tight in Tokyo seeing what has been the heart of the city and perhaps the country is easy, pleasant, and stress releasing in one of the world’s great megalopolises.
I’m not talking about tours or guides. Just take a walk around the perimeter of the palace grounds with it’s moats, gates, ramparts, and joggers as I did on my recent visit.
This was the former Edo Castle which took up much more space in a time when the shogun, military, ruled. Today the total area is less than 3.5 square kilometres. Easy access from Tokyo train station and a brisk walk from the Marunouchi exit of the heritage transportation hub and back will take you less than an hour.
I guarantee you will be refreshed and maybe even for a few minutes learn another way how to wind down in this humungous city and feel what it’s like to be a Tokyoite.
