Taipei Temple Worships The Revered Medicine God – Far East Adventure Travel

Baoan Temple-Datong District, Taipei Taiwan where the God of Medicine is the main deity

The Baoan Temple started construction after it was bankrolled by Fujian province settlers in 1805. Construction was finally completed in 1830.

The Baosheng Emperor or medicine God is the main diety of the temple. As mentioned earlier he lived from 979-1036. Shortly after his death country folk started to revere him as a God.

This is not a table feast for the Daoist priests but yet more offerings of food and fruit for the Medicine God.

In this ritual the Taoist priest leads the followers over a bridge apparatus 3 times. It signifies the leaving of bad luck behind and good luck and health for the future.

In the 15th century the Yongle Ming Emperor or Cheng Tzu declared Wu Ben Imperial Inspector at Heavenly Gate, Miracle doctor of compassion relief, Long-lived, Unbounded, Life-guarding Emperor when he cured the Empress Wen of a breast ailment. The imperial doctors had no cure. It is said that Wu Ben came back to earth as a Taoist priest. After that he was revered as the God of Medicine.
